Saint Michael and All Angels

Everlasting God, you have ordained and constituted in a wonderful order the ministries of angels and mortals: Mercifully grant that, as your holy angels always serve and worship you in heaven, so by your appointment they may help and defend us here on earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost

O God, you declare your almighty power chiefly in showing mercy and pity: Grant us the fullness of your grace, that we, running to obtain your promises, may become partakers of your heavenly treasure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Blessed God, fountain of life: Grant that we may see all

water as holy, and so protect and preserve the waters of

the earth and the life they sustain. In the name of Christ,

the living water, we pray. Amen.

---

God of peace, we offer ourselves, heart and soul, and mind

our own community.

and give us hearts that ache to care for it.

their careful use and conservation, that we may have

the will and the ability to keep them clean and pure.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We beseech you for those who are on our parish

prayer list. For the victims of the storm. For those who seek after their loved ones.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Wrap all who know pain or sickness into your healing

embrace, give them courage and perseverance and

remind them that you are with them in their suffering.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The flowers are given in loving memory of Eva Reise.

Shower the dead with your love that they might be at

peace and free from the tribulations of this life; and, at

the dawn of your new age, reunite us with those whom

we love but are now beyond our reach.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Almighty God, who was and is and is to come,

bestow your blessings upon us and answer our

prayers as may be best for us, and all this we ask

through your Son, Jesus Christ, who is our

redeemer and savior. Amen.

Fall 2024 Update with Important Dates and Plans

+ St. Paul's, Portsmouth Fall 2024 Update

Dear St. Paul's Folks,

The seasons are so beautiful here in New England!

Summer and its warmth, and heat, is giving way to the color and coolness of the Fall. During the early days of September and October, at St. Paul's we are celebrating and praying through a Season of Creation as we acknowledge our role as God's stewards of this created world we share.

We move gradually into the color of the leaves and the crispness of the October time and feeling the briskness of the coming cold weather and the feeling of Thanksgiving as November's theme takes over all around us. A theme that is so appropriate for our lives as faithful followers of the One who came among us because "God so loved the world that he gave his only son".

As we share the world, we know also that God so loves us that he gave us each other, to love and to serve together in his church.

Thanks be to God and to our Lord Jesus Christ for our community here and for the way we are nourished at St. Paul's through the Word and Sacraments and through the blessing of our fellowship.

We pray for these days and for our life together.

Faithfully,

Rev. Marilyn and Rev. Liz

Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

----

Merciful Lord, hear us as we consider the needs of the

world and your people as we pray:

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the well-being of the earth; for its resources of

water, air, light, and soil, that they may be tended for the

good of all creatures.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for your church in all places around the world and

give you thanks that we share one faith and one hope that

begins and ends with you.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the National Episcopal Church Leaders. We

pray for our Presiding Bishop, Michael Curry, and our

Presiding Bishop Elect, Sean Rowe. And we pray for Christ Church of Springfield Ohio with their Rector The Rev. Dr. Michelle Boomgaard.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for this Diocese and especially for the Diocesan

Committee on Investments; the Commission on Finance;

and all who serve the financial ministries of the Diocese.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for this congregation. May we share one another’s

joys and burdens,

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray tor the needs of our nation, for those who live in

states we have never seen, for those who face natural

disasters we have not experienced and who we hope to

serve in their time of need.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for those desperate for cures, those waiting for a

miracle, those who need diagnosis and comfort and prayer.

Deliver the sick from fear and pain, give sleep to the

restless and comfort to those in need.

We pray for those on our Parish Prayer List

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the dying, and those who sit at bedsides of

those dying. Bring comfort and deliverance, Lord, for our

eternal rest is always in you.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Gracious God, grant that your people may have in them the

same mind that was in Christ Jesus, and guide us into

harmony of relationship through loving-kindness and the

wise use of all that you have given; for you are drawing all

things into communion with you and with each other by the

power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

----

Closing Prayer

Create in us a new heart and a new vision, O God,

that the gifts of your Spirit may work in us and renew

the face of the earth.

May we be one with you so that our work is yours

and your work is ours.

Lead us to transform our lives to reflect your

glory in Creation; through Jesus Christ our Savior who

is alive with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen.

Saint Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist

We thank you, heavenly Father, for the witness of your apostle and evangelist Matthew to the Gospel of your Son our Savior; and we pray that, after his example, we may with ready wills and hearts obey the calling of our Lord to follow him; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Prayers of the People

Let us call out to the Lord with our prayers and

petitions saying:

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Lord has given us the beauty of worship and the

gift of fellowship with one another.

We thank you, Lord, for the church.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Lord has given us National Church Leaders. We

offer our prayers for our Presiding Bishop, Michael

Curry and the Presiding Bishop Elect, Sean Rowe.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Lord has given us life in a nation of opportunities

and liberty; with public services such as fire and police

protection, ambulances, food pantries, schools,

libraries, and hospitals.

We thank you, Lord, for our national life.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Lord has given us life in our Diocese and today we

pray for the people and clergy of Saints Mathew and

Mark in Barrington, and St. Matthew’s in Jamestown.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Lord has given us neighbors, friends, families, and

coworkers to share the joys and burdens of this life.

We thank you, Lord, for the privilege of loving others.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Lord has given us a world full of creatures that

crawl, fly, swim, and climb. We enjoy a bounty of

flowers and shrubs, grasses and trees, plants and

moss, and rocks and hills. We thank you, Lord,

for your creation.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Lord has given us one another and we thank the

Lord for this. And we commend to the Lord the sick

and the suffering. We especially pray for the sick, and

those needing support, on our Parish Prayer List….

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Lord receives the souls of the departed. Today we

remember Alfred and Gladys Fortier, in whose memory

the flowers have been given.

The Lord has given us a promise that where He goes,

He will prepare a place for us. We thank you, Lord, for

the gift of life and for giving us to one another for

safekeeping. Bring us home when it is time.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Lord has given us permission to pray with the

audacity of heirs and the openness of children. Thank

you, Lord, for listening to us today and every day…

We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
